The lake was lost resulting from global warming

A Large lake in Magallanes region, located in Patagonia, is the southernmost part of Chile has mysteriously disappeared, prompting speculation the ground has simply opened up and swallowed it whole. The lake is fed by glacial water, mostly from melting glaciers as the region is known for penguins, ñandus, guanacos, and condors.

The lake was situated in Bernardo O'Higgins National Park. It had a surface area of between four and five hectares (10-12 acres), which is about the size of 10 soccer pitches. "In March we patrolled the area and everything was normal, we went again in May and to our surprise we found the lake had completely disappeared, that remained only craters be as deep as around 50 metre ''
"The lake was lost just like that."said Juan Jose Romero, regional director of Chile's National Forestry Corporation.
"The only things left were chunks of ice on the dry lake-bed and an enormous fissure,'' Romero told Reuters.
A group of geologist and the environmental expert was afterwards sent to the territory to investigate this lake loss. They considered, global warming was the cause of the lake loss. Almost one month at intervals of, the experts also succeeded in attracting the conclusion concerning the cause of this lake loss. One theory is that the area was hit by an earth tremor that opened a crack in the ground which acted like a drain. Southern Chile has been shaken by thousands of minor earth tremors this year.
"We found a big gap in the wall" of "Bernado lake ice."
We were sure water flowed went out through there. This stressed that the layer of ice in this territory increasingly diminished, explained the chairman of the team of the researcher, Andres Rivera, The expert glasiologi from The centre of the Scientific Cile Study.
